Established in 1968 the Jersey City Police Emerald Society was founded to celebrate the Irish heritage of the long line of Irish Jersey City cops. Since it's inception the Emerald Society has grown considerably, branching out beyond the Jersey City Police Department, allowing law enforcement officers from other departments. Currently we have over 600 members in the Society including over 400 active Jersey City Police Officers and over 130 retired members. Our outside agencies include North Bergen P.D., Hudson County Sheriff's Officers, Conrail P.D., Hudson County Corrections Officers, Guttenberg P.D., Woodbridge P.D., and numerous Officers with duel Emerald Society memberships.
We are a charter member of the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies, and have an Officer on the NCLEES Executive Board, we also have a very good working realtionship with many other Emerald Societies throughout the country.
We have been represented at many Ceremonies, Memorials, and Parades, both in the United States and Ireland.
